The Hwb Collective’s revision area was created to give learners a clearer way to practise the knowledge and application needed for WJEC GCSE Design and Technology Unit 1. The tools are independently written and are not presented as official WJEC materials.
Three pathways available
- Engineering Design: product systems, mechanisms, electronics, materials, manufacture and sustainability.
- Product Design: user-centred products, materials, manufacturing, electronics, packaging and circular design.
- Fashion and Textiles: fibres and fabrics, construction, finishes, production, sustainability and design decisions.
What each tool includes
Learners can generate a balanced 80-mark mock, choose focused-topic practice, complete a multiple-choice revision quiz and use Answer Detective activities to decide which marking points a response has earned.
Written responses use learner-friendly self-mark criteria and model answers. The intention is not simply to display a score, but to help the learner see what an answer needed and identify a useful next target.
Original questions and illustrations
The question banks are independently written using qualification content and historical assessment style as guidance. Context illustrations used by the public tools were recreated for The Hwb Collective and do not reproduce past-paper artwork. Official specifications, sample materials, past papers and the WJEC Question Bank are linked externally.
Designed in South Wales
The tools were developed in Mumbles, Swansea as part of The Hwb Collective’s wider aim to connect practical STEM learning with confidence, progression and employability. They are free for individual personal revision use, while schools and organisations can discuss facilitated or licensed use separately.
